課程概述 |
對日常生活景象進行描繪刻劃、或紀錄，是近現代西方藝術很重要的特點。這個藝術傳統尤其起自中古晚期的尼德蘭繪畫，至十七世紀荷蘭黃金時期的繪畫達到高峰。但是在傳統的藝術史論述裡，這些畫作經常被用傳統的類型分別歸類在「風俗畫」(genre)、「靜物畫」(still life)、「城市景觀畫」(cityscape)、「風景畫」(landscape)…之中。近年來，藝術史學界才改從「日常生活」(everyday life)的角度重新來看這些作品，這個不同的切入角度提供我們能更深廣地探討自中古晚期至當代藝術對日常生活描繪與記錄的種種面向。
這門課分為上下學期，但是各自獨立的課程設計。上學期主要探討的是15-16世紀尼德蘭藝術以迄17世紀荷蘭黃金時代繪畫對日常生活的描述。下學期則著重在19世紀至當代藝術（包括攝影）對日常生活的刻畫與紀錄。
上學期的課程設計依時代順序分為三大主題：(1) Early Netherlandish Painting (包括Hieronymus Bosch); (2) Netherlandish Painting (包括Pieter Bruegel the Elder); (3) 17th-century Dutch Painting (包括 Rembrandt與Vermeer等人). |

1. 學習解讀視覺圖像的語彙
2. 學習了解日常生活如何成為視覺圖像表達的主題，以及這些視覺圖像與日常生活使研究之間的關係
3. 學習了解不同視覺創作媒材在記錄、描繪日常生活時的特點與局限

課程要求 |
1. 欲修課同學，第一與第二週上課請務必出席
2. 閱讀英文教材
3. 規律與準時出席，並參與課堂討論
4. 每週分組口頭報告
5. 期末project製作 （口頭報告以及其他大家共同約定的形式）
